Online Therapy

If you have questions about doing counselling online then you have come to the right place.

Online therapy is mostly online over Zoom although there are other ways too, if needed. Like face-to-face sessions, online therapy is about creating space to explore, learn and grow whilst keeping safe.

What are the advantages to online therapy?

There are some general advantages to online therapy. Doing it from your own home allows you to be in your own space and have your home comforts around you. It also reduces travel time and the costs associated with that. In order to do therapy online, you will need an internet connection and a private space where you won’t be overheard.

How does online therapy work?

Once we have agreed to work together, I will send you an email with instructions. If we have agreed to work on Zoom, it will contain a link which you can click on or a password that you can put into Zoom (depending on your preference). This will take you into our session and I will be there at the time agreed.

What if I’ve not used Zoom before?

If technology is daunting or if you haven’t used Zoom before, that is okay. If I have not heard from you I will give you a call and we can talk through the process on the phone. If you find yourself particularly daunted by it, we can always arrange a time to connect prior to the session where we say a quick ‘Hi’ whilst checking it is all working.

What is the first session like?

The first online session is very similar to meeting face-to-face. It is about bringing yourself, just as you are. I will explain confidentiality to you and how therapy works, giving you space to ask any questions you may have. After that we will start to talk in more depth about what is happening for you.

Is online therapy suitable for everyone?

In general, yes but it is not suitable for those with severe mental health issues and those with thoughts of suicide/self harm.
