About Me

Hi, I am Kirsten. I understand how hard anxiety is: the fears, the guilt, the struggle. I also know that, not only can we gradually learn to deal with anxiety but we can move beyond it, understanding ourselves and utilising this knowledge in order to flourish in our lives.

Anxiety and stress takes lots of different forms from: worry, panic, feeling life is too much, avoiding things the very things that would move us forward, right to a diagnosis of generalised anxiety disorder or obsessive compulsive disorder.

You might imagine that one set of symptoms should be treated in a specific manner and differently from others, in the same way that a broken leg is always treated by using a cast. However, it is not just the symptoms that I work with, it is you as the individual you are. The causes to anxiety and stress are as individual as you and I. This is where the one-to-one approach of working together to find out what is happening to you really come into its own. I am trained as an ‘Integrative’ therapist which means that I blend a variety of approaches to suit each individual. Studying very broadly in Counselling, Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy I adapt my approach to you.

“Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakes.” Carl Jung

No-one would never choose to feel so awful. Anxiety and stress can be worse than having a broken leg and are all the harder because others can’t see it and often, don’t understand. But anxiety (and indeed other emotional issues) can be the start to awakening, if we choose to look within ourselves. Using our time together, deeper held thoughts and feelings can be acknowledged and worked through.

As part of the process of counselling I take confidentiality and ethics very seriously. I am a registered member of the largest therapy association in the UK, the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, I abide by their ethical framework, this includes continuous professional development and seeing a qualified supervisor to ensure that I keep learning and growing as a therapist too.
